Description

A comforting and delicious stuffed Italian meatloaf with layers of savory ground beef, Italian sausage, and cheese topped with marinara sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
  • ½ lb ground Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • ½ cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup spinach, chopped (optional)
  • ¼ cup marinara sauce
  • ½ cup marinara sauce
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, chopped onion, minced garlic, bread crumbs, eggs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and parsley in a large bowl.
  3. Add the milk, salt, and pepper, mixing until everything melds together.
  4. Shape the meat mixture into a rectangular loaf, roughly 9 x 12 inches, on a baking sheet.
  5. Create a well in the center of the meatloaf for the filling.
  6. Fill the well with melted mozzarella cheese, spinach (if using), and a spoonful of marinara sauce.
  7. Carefully fold the meat around the filling, sealing the edges to form a loaf.
  8. Spread the remaining marinara sauce generously over the top, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 45-55 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  10. Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using fresh herbs and monitor baking time closely to prevent burning.
