Description

Delicious hamburger steaks served in a rich and creamy dill sauce, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1.3 pounds ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 1 yellow onion (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup low sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped dill (more for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, grate the onion.
  2. Add the ground beef, breadcrumbs, salt, black pepper, cream, and egg.
  3. Mix everything with your hands until just combined.
  4. Divide the mixture into four equal portions.
  5. Shape each portion into a ball, then press them down to form patties about ¾ inch thick.
  6. Set the patties aside on a plate.
  7. To make the sauce, finely chop another onion and mince the garlic.
  8. Heat olive oil and butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  9. Add the hamburger steaks to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Transfer the cooked steaks to a clean plate.
  10. Reduce the heat and add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking them until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  11. Stir in salt, black pepper, and flour until incorporated.
  12. Pour in the chicken broth and simmer for 2 minutes, scraping the brown bits from the skillet.
  13. Add heavy cream and dill, bringing it to a boil and simmering for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  14. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, simmering for an additional 5-6 minutes until heated through along with the sauce.
  15. Finish with freshly chopped dill and a sprinkle of black pepper.

Notes

Consider refrigerating formed patties for 30 minutes before cooking for best results. Pair with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
