Description

A comforting mix of savory ground beef and vibrant broccoli, perfect for quick weeknight dinners or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
  • Cooked rice or quinoa (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the onion softens and becomes translucent.
  4. Stir in the broccoli florets, soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), brown sugar, and beef broth. Mix cornstarch with a small amount of water to create a slurry, then stir it in for thicker sauce.
  5. Let everything simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender and the sauce has thickened.
  6. Stir in the sesame oil and grated ginger if using. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper, adding more soy sauce or sugar as needed.
  7. Serve over cooked rice or quinoa for a complete meal.

Notes

For added flavor, consider incorporating red pepper flakes or additional vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas.
