Description

A quick and satisfying weeknight meal featuring savory ground beef and vibrant broccoli, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 3-4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (or ground sirloin)
  • 2-3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 8-10 cranks freshly ground black pepper
  • Sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil shimmers, add the broccoli and cook, tossing frequently, for about 3-4 minutes until the broccoli turns vibrantly green and develops a tender-crisp texture. Remove the broccoli to a plate and set aside.
  2. Next, add the ground beef and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for around 5-6 minutes until the beef is mostly browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain or use a paper towel to absorb any excess fat.
  3. While the beef cooks, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, toasted sesame oil, ground ginger, red pepper flakes, and black pepper in a small bowl or measuring cup. Whisk the mixture until smooth and set it aside.
  4. As soon as the beef is browned, pour in the prepared sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Return the broccoli to the pan and toss everything to coat. Season with salt to taste, and serve immediately over rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Start with fresh broccoli for the best flavor and texture. Feel free to experiment with different vegetables if desired.
