Description
A delightful glazed apple slab pie combining flaky crust and spiced apples, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 to 8 tablespoons cold water
- 6 cups thinly sliced apples (such as Granny Smith)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a sheet pan.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cold water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half, shape it into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out one disc to fit the sheet pan, and place it in the pan.
- In another bowl, toss apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour the apple mixture over the crust.
- Roll out the second disc and place it over the apples, sealing the edges. Cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until apples are tender and the crust is golden.
- Let it cool before glazing.
- For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled pie before serving.
