Description

A comforting chili recipe that warms the heart with a rich blend of spices, perfect for family dinners or game days.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2-3 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, avocado slices, tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Gather all of your ingredients and chop vegetables.
  2. In a large pot, cook the ground beef or turkey over medium heat until it’s fully brown.
  3. Add diced onion and bell pepper to the meat. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, then add minced garlic.
  4. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper, letting the spices toast slightly.
  5. Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir everything together until well combined.
  6. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat. Let it simmer for 30 minutes to meld the flavors.
  7. Stir in the rinsed kidney beans and pinto beans. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  8. Sample the chili, adjusting seasoning as necessary.
  9. Ladle into bowls and top with extras like shredded cheese, sour cream, or avocado.

Notes

Let the chili rest to enhance flavors; chilling overnight is recommended for best results.
