Description
Delicious cinnamon rolls made with a rich dough, cinnamon filling, and topped with cream cheese frosting, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups (300 ml) whole milk, warmed to about 110 degrees
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp granulated white sugar (to bloom the yeast)
- 4 3/4 cups (593 g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp (25 g) granulated white sugar
- 2 eggs, whisked
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup (112 g) unsalted butter, very softened
- 1 cup (220 g) light brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup (116 g) honey
- 1/2 tbsp vanilla
Instructions
- Warm the whole milk gently and monitor the temperature with an instant-read thermometer.
- Sprinkle the active dry yeast and a teaspoon of granulated white sugar into the warm milk and set aside for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and remaining sugar.
- Incorporate the bloomed yeast into the flour mixture, along with the whisked eggs, softened butter, and vanilla; mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic, adding more flour if necessary.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm environment until doubled in size, about 1 to 2 hours.
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out onto a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Prepare the filling by mixing light brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl and spreading it evenly over the rolled-out dough.
- Drizzle honey over the filling and spread the remaining softened butter on top.
- Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other to form a cylinder.
- Cut the rolled dough into 1 to 1.5-inch-wide sections and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Let the rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes before baking them at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- For softer rolls, pour heavy cream between them before baking.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for best results. If desired, add chocolate chips or nuts to the filling for variations.
