Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb (680 g) lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 2 medium onions, chopped (1 cup (240 ml))
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon (1 ml) pepper
  • 1 can (28 oz (794 g)) chunky tomato sauce
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 container (15 oz (425 g)) ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup (240 ml) shredded Swiss cheese (4 oz (113 g))
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped fresh parsley
  • 8 slices turkey bacon, crisply cooked, crumbled (1/2 cup (120 ml))
  • 12 uncooked lasagna noodles
  • 2 cup (480 ml) s shredded Cheddar cheese (8 oz (227 g))

Instructions

  1. Coat a 13×9-inch glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a 12-inch skillet, brown the beef and onions with salt and pepper over medium-high heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring every so often; then drain the excess fat.
  3. Add the tomato sauce and water to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and let it simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk the egg using a fork. Mix in the ricotta cheese, Swiss cheese, parsley, and 1/4 cup of the crumbled bacon.
  5. Spread around 1 cup of the beef mixture in the prepared baking dish. Layer with 4 uncooked lasagna noodles. Evenly distribute half of the ricotta mixture, followed by 2 cups of the beef mixture and 3/4 cup of the Cheddar cheese over the noodles.
  6. Repeat the layering process once more, starting with 4 more noodles. For the final layer, top with the remaining noodles, beef mixture, Cheddar cheese, and the rest of the bacon.
  7. Spray a 15-inch sheet of foil with cooking spray and cover the lasagna with it, sprayed side facing down. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, but no more than 24 hours.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake the covered dish for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for about 30 more minutes, or until the lasagna is bubbly and golden brown on top.
  9. Cover the dish and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
