Ingredients
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring until the mixture thickens.
- Stir in the cheddar and Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until melted and smooth.
- Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni and mix well.
- Transfer to a greased baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly and golden.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For a gourmet touch, consider adding some cooked bacon or sautéed veggies like spinach or mushrooms to the cheese sauce.
