Description

Delicious Thai basil beef rolls filled with savory ground beef, fresh herbs, and crisp vegetables, wrapped in rice paper for a light and refreshing dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red chili, finely chopped
  • 450 g ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves, chopped
  • 12 rice paper wrappers
  • 0.5 cup shredded carrot
  • 0.5 cup cucumber, julienned
  • 0.25 cup green onions, chopped
  • 0.5 cup fresh mint or cilantro leaves
  • Lettuce or baby spinach (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the sesame oil in a skillet or wok.
  2. Add minced garlic and finely chopped chili, stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Incorporate the ground beef. Cook it for 5-7 minutes, ensuring it browns nicely.
  4. Once browned, stir in soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and ground white pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes for melded flavors.
  5. Stir in the chopped Thai basil, remove from heat, and let the mixture cool.
  6. Prepare a large bowl of warm water. Set up your damp rolling surface nearby.
  7. Dip the rice paper wrapper in the warm water for 5-8 seconds until pliable. Lay it flat on your surface.
  8. Layer basil or mint leaves, a spoonful of the beef mixture, some shredded carrots, julienned cucumber, and chopped green onions in the center.
  9. Fold the bottom of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
  10. Repeat this process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  11. Slice the rolls in half with a sharp knife for presentation.
  12. Enjoy the rolls as they are or pair them with a dipping sauce.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. Enjoy fresh portions for the best texture.
