Delicious and fudgy brownies made using sourdough discard, offering a unique flavor profile and perfect for utilizing leftovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter (discard)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the melted butter and sugar until combined.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
  4. Stir in the sourdough starter until fully incorporated.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  8. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider toasting the cocoa powder before mixing it into the batter. You can also mix in various types of chocolate chips or nuts for different flavors.
