Description

A simple and flavorful roast turkey recipe perfect for holiday gatherings, designed for both beginners and seasoned chefs.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (12-15 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey broth
  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, and sage)
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, cut into chunks
  • 2 celery stalks, cut into chunks

Instructions

  1. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  2. Rub the softened butter all over the turkey, including underneath the skin.
  3. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Stuff the cavity with fresh herbs, onion, carrots, and celery.
  5. Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.
  6. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  7. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast in the oven.
  8. Remove the foil during the last hour of cooking to allow the skin to crisp.
  9. Roast until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  10. Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.

Notes

Ensure the turkey is fully thawed before cooking for even results. Baste every 45 minutes for moist meat.
