A simple and flavorful roast turkey recipe perfect for holiday gatherings, designed for both beginners and seasoned chefs.
Ingredients
- 1 whole turkey (12-15 pounds)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups chicken or turkey broth
- Fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, and sage)
- 1 onion, quartered
- 2 carrots, cut into chunks
- 2 celery stalks, cut into chunks
Instructions
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the softened butter all over the turkey, including underneath the skin.
- Season generously with salt and pepper.
- Stuff the cavity with fresh herbs, onion, carrots, and celery.
- Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.
- Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
- Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast in the oven.
- Remove the foil during the last hour of cooking to allow the skin to crisp.
- Roast until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
- Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.

Ensure the turkey is fully thawed before cooking for even results. Baste every 45 minutes for moist meat.
