Ingredients
- 2 slices good sourdough or crusty bread
- ½ ball of fresh mozzarella
- 1 handful of grated cheddar, mozzarella, or Gruyere
- 2 tbsp fresh basil pesto
- 3 slices of prosciutto
- 4-5 basil leaves for topping
- Butter
Instructions
- Heat a pan over low-medium heat.
- Take one slice of bread and spread butter on one side.
- Flip the slice over (butter side down) and top with grated cheese.
- Layer with prosciutto, fresh sliced mozzarella, basil leaves, and pesto.
- Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
- Top with the second slice of bread, buttering the top side as well.
- Place the sandwich in the pan and fry for 5 minutes on each side, achieving a crunchy crust and melty inside.
Notes
To enhance the flavor, consider using a combination of cheeses or swapping pesto for other spreads like sun-dried tomato. Toasting the bread can also add extra crunch.
