Description

A classic Southern dish, combining crispy fried chicken with fluffy waffles drizzled in spicy honey butter for a comforting brunch experience.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (or breasts)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (for waffles)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¾ cups milk
  • ⅓ cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup honey (or maple syrup)
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted (for sauce)
  • 1-2 teaspoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • Pinch of cayenne (optional for sauce)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Soak chicken in buttermilk, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper for at least 30 minutes. Dredge in a mixture of flour and cornstarch until well coated.
  2. Make the Waffles: Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in one bowl. In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla, then combine wet and dry ingredients. Cook in a preheated waffle iron.
  3. Make the Spicy Honey Butter Sauce: Whisk melted butter, honey, hot sauce, and cayenne together.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Stack a waffle and crispy chicken on each plate, drizzling with the spicy honey butter sauce.

Notes

Let chicken marinate overnight for deeper flavor. Use a deep-frying thermometer for perfect oil temperature.
