A comforting Southern dish featuring sautéed cabbage, crispy bacon, and sweet onions, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage, chopped
- 4 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 onion, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the chopped bacon over medium heat in a large skillet until crispy.
- Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the grease in the pan.
- Add sliced onion to the pan and sauté until translucent.
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring well to combine with the onions and bacon grease.
- Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot, garnished with the crispy bacon.
Notes
For a bit of heat, add red pepper flakes. If you prefer a vegetarian version, skip the bacon and use olive oil.
