Description

A delightful South Indian dish with a rich coconut flavor, enhanced by spices and perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rice
  • 1 cup of grated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of urad dal
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1-2 dried red chilies
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh curry leaves


Instructions

  1. Cook the rice according to package instructions and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and add mustard seeds and urad dal, allowing them to splutter.
  3. Introduce chopped green chilies, dried red chilies, and curry leaves to the pan. Sauté for about a minute until fragrant.
  4. Add grated coconut and turmeric powder, and cook for a few minutes, stirring often.
  5. Mix in the cooked rice and salt, combining all ingredients well.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs or extra coconut if desired.

Notes

Using freshly grated coconut enhances the flavor. Feel free to adjust the spices according to your heat preference.
