Description

Fluffy and slightly sweet Sourdough Hawaiian Rolls infused with pineapple juice and made with active sourdough starter, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter (fed and bubbly)
  • 1 cup pineapple juice (not-from-concentrate for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (plus more for brushing)
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, pineapple juice, whole milk, honey, melted butter, and salt. Stir to combine.
  2. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing until a sticky, shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap. Let the dough ferment at room temperature for 8 hours or overnight.
  4. In the morning, lightly flour your work surface and place the dough on top. Divide it into 18 equal pieces.
  5. Gently shape each piece into a round roll and place them in a buttered 9×13 baking dish.
  6. Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 to 2 hours.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  8. Remove the rolls from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter.

Notes

For best results, ensure your sourdough starter is active and bubbly. Use high-quality pineapple juice for optimal flavor.
