Transform sourdough discard into warm, gooey cinnamon rolls that evoke cozy memories.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sourdough discard
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon (for filling)
- 1/2 cup icing sugar (for glaze)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, mix sourdough discard, sugar, milk, and melted butter until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually add the dry mixture to the sourdough mixture and stir until just combined.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread with melted butter, then sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon on top for the filling.
- Carefully roll the dough tightly into a log, and slice into rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- In a small bowl, mix icing sugar and milk to create a glaze.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
For a nutty variation, consider adding chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling.
