Description

Transform sourdough discard into warm, gooey cinnamon rolls that evoke cozy memories.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sourdough discard
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix sourdough discard, sugar, milk, and melted butter until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually add the dry mixture to the sourdough mixture and stir until just combined.
  4. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread with melted butter, then sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon on top for the filling.
  5. Carefully roll the dough tightly into a log, and slice into rolls.
  6. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. In a small bowl, mix icing sugar and milk to create a glaze.
  8. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving.

Notes

For a nutty variation, consider adding chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling.
