A delightful sourdough cheese bread that combines tangy sourdough flavor with the richness of melted cheese, perfect for any meal or snack.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup lukewarm water
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, sugar, and lukewarm water. Stir until well combined.
- Add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Fold in the shredded cheese.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 4-6 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or twists. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Allow it to rest for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Let it cool before slicing and serve warm.

Experiment with different cheese combinations for unique flavors. Brushing the top with olive oil before baking can enhance the crust.
