Description

Delightful sourdough beignets that combine a rich, tangy flavor with a sweet powdered sugar dusting, reminiscent of Sunday mornings at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add the flour and baking powder, and stir until a dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Scoop about a tablespoon of dough and carefully drop it into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  6. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

For a unique twist, consider adding flavors like nutmeg or cinnamon to the dough. Serve with fresh fruit or a selection of dipping sauces for an interactive dessert experience.
