Description
A simplified version of traditional cabbage rolls that combines ground beef, chopped cabbage, and a rich tomato sauce, all cooked effortlessly in a slow cooker.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
- 1 (14-ounce) can petite diced tomatoes
- 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until slightly pink, then drain excess fat.
- Add diced onion and spices (thyme, parsley, red pepper flakes, and kosher salt) to the skillet and cook until the onions soften, about 3-4 minutes.
- Transfer the meat mixture to the slow cooker, layering in the chopped cabbage.
- In a mixing bowl, combine diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and water, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the sauce over the meat and cabbage in the slow cooker, mixing gently to combine.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
Notes
For a spicier dish, adjust red pepper flakes to taste. Pre-chopping the cabbage in advance can save time and make it easier to integrate when cooking.
