Ingredients
- 1 lb (454 g) elb ow macaroni
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) unsalted butter, divided
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) flour
- 3 cup (720 ml) s whole milk, room temperature
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream, room temperature
- 4 cup (960 ml) s grated Gruyère cheese
- 2 cup (480 ml) s grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp (5 ml) coarse salt
- 1 1/2 lb (680 g) cooked lobster, crab, and/or shrimp, etc.
- 1 cup (240 ml) panko breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Set your oven to 375°F for preheating.
- Apply a thin layer of butter or cooking spray to a 2-quart oven-safe dish.
- Prepare the macaroni according to the package instructions until it is just firm to the bite.
- At the same time, in a large saucepan over medium heat, melt 6 tablespoons of butter. Integrate the flour by whisking continuously for about 30 seconds until smooth. Gradually incorporate the milk and cream, whisking nonstop until the mixture is smooth, which should take around a minute. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer.
- Add the grated cheeses gradually, stirring thoroughly to ensure complete melting before adding more. Once done, turn off the heat and gently fold in the pasta and seafood. Transfer this mixture to the greased baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter with the panko breadcrumbs. Distribute this mixture evenly over the top of the pasta.
- Place in the oven and cook for approximately 30 minutes, or until the dish is heated through and the breadcrumbs are a crisp golden hue. Serve without delay.
