Ingredients
- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the sourdough discard, olive oil, salt, sugar, and minced garlic until fully combined.
- Gradually add in the flour and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces and roll each piece into a knot shape.
- Place the knots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the knots with melted butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and Italian herbs if using.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider mixing fresh herbs into the dough or using alternative cheeses. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or freeze for up to three months.
