Description

A lightened version of classic banana bread, made with ripe bananas, applesauce, and whole wheat flour for a nutritious and delightful treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. Mash the ripe bananas well in a mixing bowl.
  3. Stir in the applesauce, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in another bowl.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined; do not overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Ensure bananas are fully ripe for the best flavor and natural sweetness. Overmixing the batter can lead to a dense loaf; mix just until combined.
