Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (450 g)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce (425 g)
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans (425 g)
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes (411 g)
- 1 1/2 cups water (360 ml)
- 1 pinch chili powder
- 1 pinch garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, place the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat; cook while stirring until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, which should take around 5 to 7 minutes.
- Add the tomato sauce, kidney beans, and stewed tomatoes along with their liquid. If you want a soupier texture, pour in some water. Sprinkle in the chili powder, garlic powder, and season with salt and black pepper to your liking.
- Allow the mixture to reach a boil, then lower the heat to a gentle simmer, cover, and let it cook for 15 minutes.
Notes
- Consider using low-sodium tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes for a richer flavor while controlling the saltiness.
- Add a kick of heat with cayenne pepper or paprika in addition to chili powder.
- Serve the chili over cooked rice or with cornbread for a heartier meal.
