Description

A creamy and cheesy potato dish that combines the flavors of russet potatoes, garlic, and a blend of cheeses, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons of softened unsalted butter (divided)
  • 3 pounds of peeled russet potatoes (about 4 or 5 medium potatoes)
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup of shredded white cheddar cheese
  • 6 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 3 cloves of minced garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a baking dish with 2 tablespoons of butter.
  2. Very thinly slice the potatoes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, shredded cheddar, 4 tablespoons of Parmesan, and minced garlic.
  4. Add the sliced potatoes and toss until well coated. Season generously with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Line the bottom of the baking dish with stacks of potatoes, keeping them upright. Repeat until all potatoes are used.
  6. Evenly pour any excess cream mixture over the layered potatoes and lightly season with additional salt and pepper.
  7. Dot the top with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter, cover the dish with foil, and bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
  8. After baking, uncover the dish, sprinkle the top with the remaining Parmesan, and continue baking for an additional 25 to 30 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  9. Transfer the dish to a broiler for 1 minute to brown the top, then let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a creamier texture, let the assembled dish rest for a few minutes before baking. Infuse the cream with herbs for added flavor.
