Description

Delightful and comforting Polish cabbage rolls filled with ground beef and rice, enveloped in tender cabbage leaves and a rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) tomato soup
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the leaves in the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until tender. Remove and let cool.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground beef, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center, and roll tightly, tucking in the sides. Repeat until all the filling is used.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Spread some tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish, place the cabbage rolls seam-side down, and cover with the remaining tomato soup, sauce, brown sugar, and lemon juice.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy your comforting Polish cabbage rolls!

Notes

Consider adding shredded vegetables to the filling for extra flavor. You can also freeze uncooked rolls for later meals.
