Description
Delightful and comforting Polish cabbage rolls filled with ground beef and rice, enveloped in tender cabbage leaves and a rich tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 can (10.5 oz) tomato soup
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the leaves in the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until tender. Remove and let cool.
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center, and roll tightly, tucking in the sides. Repeat until all the filling is used.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spread some tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish, place the cabbage rolls seam-side down, and cover with the remaining tomato soup, sauce, brown sugar, and lemon juice.
- Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Notes
Consider adding shredded vegetables to the filling for extra flavor. You can also freeze uncooked rolls for later meals.
