Description

Learn how to make a delicious Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe with this easy recipe. Perfect for a quick and flavorful meal idea!

Ingredients

  • 454 g lean ground beef
  • 75 g red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 75 g green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 75 g yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 240 ml cold water
  • 15 ml cornstarch
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) beef bouillon granules
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 180 ml shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split

Instructions

  1. Warm up a large pan over medium-high heat. Cook the beef in the heated pan until it turns brown and breaks apart, roughly 5 to 7 minutes. Add the bell peppers, onion, and garlic; continue cooking until they slightly soften, approximately 5 more minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the water, cornstarch, bouillon, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture into the pan with the beef. Place a lid on the pan and lower the heat to a gentle simmer. Let it cook until the sauce becomes thicker and the vegetables are soft, around 7 to 10 minutes. Add salt and pepper according to your preference. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top; cover the pan until the cheese is melted, which should take about 2 minutes. Mix everything together.
  3. Place the beef mixture onto the split hamburger buns and serve in the style of a Sloppy Joe.

Notes

  • Enhance the beef mixture with a touch of dried oregano or thyme for added flavor.
  • Add a hint of hot sauce or red pepper flakes to spice up the beef while cooking.
  • Try whole wheat hamburger buns for a healthier choice, or opt for lettuce wraps for a low-carb alternative.
