Description

Delicious and crispy oven-baked tacos filled with flavorful beef and topped with gooey cheese, perfect for family taco nights.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade mix)
  • ⅔ cup tomato sauce or salsa
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 8 hard taco shells
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup diced red onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Guacamole (optional)
  • Jalapeño slices (optional)
  • Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Arrange the hard taco shells standing upright in a baking dish.
  3. Cook the ground beef and diced onion in a skillet over medium heat until browned and softened.
  4. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  5. Add the minced garlic and taco seasoning, stirring for about a minute.
  6. Pour in the tomato sauce or salsa, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for about five minutes.
  7. Spoon the beef mixture into the taco shells.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the filled tacos.
  9. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts and the shells turn crisp.
  10. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced red onion, and cilantro before serving.

Notes

For extra crunch, preheat the taco shells before filling. Lean ground beef or a mix with turkey can make for a healthier option.
