Ingredients
- 2 pounds (907 g) froz en tater tots (about 900 grams)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound (454 g) ground beef (450 grams)
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (240 ml)
- 1 cup (240 ml) shredded cheddar cheese (about 115 grams)
- 1 cup (240 ml) shredded moz zarella cheese (about 115 grams)
- 1 cup (240 ml) cooked beef bacon, chopped (about 120 grams)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) green onions, sliced (about 25 grams)
- 1/4 cup sour cream (60 ml)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Bake the tater tots for 20 minutes until crispy.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until soft.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart.
- Cook the beef until browned and fully cooked.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Stir in the barbecue sauce with the cooked beef.
- Season the beef mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the baked tater tots.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly over the tater tots.
- Sprinkle half of the cheddar and half of the mozzarella cheese on top.
- Layer the remaining tater tots over the cheese.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the top layer.
- Add the chopped beef bacon evenly over the cheese.
- Bake the casserole in the oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- Drizzle sour cream over the top of the casserole.
- Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
