Ingredients

  • 2 pounds (907 g) froz en tater tots (about 900 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound (454 g) ground beef (450 grams)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (240 ml)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) shredded cheddar cheese (about 115 grams)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) shredded moz zarella cheese (about 115 grams)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cooked beef bacon, chopped (about 120 grams)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) green onions, sliced (about 25 grams)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (60 ml)
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake the tater tots for 20 minutes until crispy.
  4. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  5. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until soft.
  6. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart.
  8. Cook the beef until browned and fully cooked.
  9. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  10. Stir in the barbecue sauce with the cooked beef.
  11. Season the beef mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
  12. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the baked tater tots.
  13. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the tater tots.
  14. Sprinkle half of the cheddar and half of the mozzarella cheese on top.
  15. Layer the remaining tater tots over the cheese.
  16. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the top layer.
  17. Add the chopped beef bacon evenly over the cheese.
  18. Bake the casserole in the oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  19. Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  20. Drizzle sour cream over the top of the casserole.
  21. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
