Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) ground beef (450 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder (5 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder (5 grams)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) smoked paprika (2.5 grams)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil (15 milliliters)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) shredded cheddar cheese (115 grams)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) barbecue sauce (120 milliliters)
  • 1/2 pound (227 g) turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled (225 grams)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped green onions (25 grams)
  • 4 large pita bread rounds
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sesame seeds (15 grams)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  6. Add barbecue sauce to the skillet and mix well with the beef.
  7. Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  8. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, and chopped green onions.
  9. Cut each pita round in half to create pockets.
  10. Stuff each pita pocket with the beef and cheese mixture.
  11. Place filled pita pockets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  12. Brush the tops of the pita pockets with beaten egg.
  13. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the tops of the pita pockets.
  14. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  15. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
