A comforting and traditional homemade Thanksgiving stuffing made with stale bread, vegetables, and herbs, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf of bread (preferably stale, cubed)
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 to 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and celery, sautéing until soft and fragrant.
- Incorporate minced garlic, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper, cooking for an additional minute.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread with the sautéed mixture.
- Slowly pour in the broth, stirring until the bread is moist yet not soggy.
- Fold in the chopped parsley if desired.
- Transfer the stuffing into a greased baking dish.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
For added flavor, consider mixing different types of stale bread or adding toasted nuts or dried fruits.
