Description
Delicious homemade cronuts combining the flaky layers of croissants with the sweet treat of donuts, drizzled with a sweet glaze.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 egg
- 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm. Stir in the sugar and yeast; let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg. Knead until smooth.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 60 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out rounds and holes.
- Let the donuts rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the cronuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- In a bowl, mix powdered sugar, water, and vanilla to make the glaze.
- Dip each cronut in the glaze and let it set. Enjoy!
Notes
Serve fresh and consider dusting with extra powdered sugar for added sweetness.
