Description

Delicious homemade cronuts combining the flaky layers of croissants with the sweet treat of donuts, drizzled with a sweet glaze.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm. Stir in the sugar and yeast; let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg. Knead until smooth.
  3. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 60 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out rounds and holes.
  5. Let the donuts rise again for about 30 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the cronuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  7. In a bowl, mix powdered sugar, water, and vanilla to make the glaze.
  8. Dip each cronut in the glaze and let it set. Enjoy!

Notes

Serve fresh and consider dusting with extra powdered sugar for added sweetness.
