Ingredients
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) Rapid Rise Instant Yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 egg, at room temperature
- 2/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
- 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
- ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 – 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Mix 2 cups of flour with granulated sugar, yeast, and salt in a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment on low speed until combined.
- Heat the milk and butter in a microwave-safe bowl until warm to the touch.
- Pour the warm milk mixture into the flour mixture. Add the egg and beat everything together on low speed until combined.
- Gradually increase the speed to high and beat for 2 minutes.
- Switch to the dough hook attachment. Add 1 ½ cups of flour and knead on low speed until combined, then add the remaining 1 cup of flour.
- Knead until the dough pulls away from the sides and forms a ball around the hook.
- Increase to medium-low speed and knead until smooth, about 10 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Prepare the filling by combining brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl.
- Turn the risen dough onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle measuring 12 inches by 18 inches.
- Spread soft butter onto the dough, sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly on top, and roll tightly from the wide side.
- Cut the log into 12 rolls and place in a greased baking pan lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool for 15 minutes.
- Prepare the cream cheese frosting by mixing cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Beat until fluffy and smooth.
- Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy!
Notes
Ensure your kitchen is warm for the best dough rise. Use room temperature ingredients for even mixing.
