Description

Soft and fluffy homemade cinnamon rolls with a delightful cream cheese frosting, perfect for brunch or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) Rapid Rise Instant Yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Mix 2 cups of flour with granulated sugar, yeast, and salt in a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment on low speed until combined.
  2. Heat the milk and butter in a microwave-safe bowl until warm to the touch.
  3. Pour the warm milk mixture into the flour mixture. Add the egg and beat everything together on low speed until combined.
  4. Gradually increase the speed to high and beat for 2 minutes.
  5. Switch to the dough hook attachment. Add 1 ½ cups of flour and knead on low speed until combined, then add the remaining 1 cup of flour.
  6. Knead until the dough pulls away from the sides and forms a ball around the hook.
  7. Increase to medium-low speed and knead until smooth, about 10 minutes.
  8. Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  9. Prepare the filling by combining brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl.
  10. Turn the risen dough onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle measuring 12 inches by 18 inches.
  11. Spread soft butter onto the dough, sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly on top, and roll tightly from the wide side.
  12. Cut the log into 12 rolls and place in a greased baking pan lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  13. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool for 15 minutes.
  14. Prepare the cream cheese frosting by mixing cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Beat until fluffy and smooth.
  15. Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure your kitchen is warm for the best dough rise. Use room temperature ingredients for even mixing.
