A classic homemade apple pie with a flaky crust and perfectly spiced apple filling, evoking nostalgic memories and perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until a ball forms. Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least four hours.
- Roll out the chilled dough and fit it into a pie dish.
- Toss the sliced apples with 3/4 cup sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of flour and stir to combine.
- Pour the apple filling into the crust, then roll out the top crust. Place it over the filling, seal the edges, and cut slits to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving.
Notes
Use a mix of apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp for depth of flavor. Store leftovers at room temperature for up to two days, or refrigerate and consume within a week.
