Description

A classic homemade apple pie with a flaky crust and perfectly spiced apple filling, evoking nostalgic memories and perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until a ball forms. Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least four hours.
  4. Roll out the chilled dough and fit it into a pie dish.
  5. Toss the sliced apples with 3/4 cup sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of flour and stir to combine.
  6. Pour the apple filling into the crust, then roll out the top crust. Place it over the filling, seal the edges, and cut slits to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
  8. Allow the pie to cool before serving.

Notes

Use a mix of apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp for depth of flavor. Store leftovers at room temperature for up to two days, or refrigerate and consume within a week.
