Description

A comforting and hearty casserole made with layers of seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, and melted cheese, perfect for family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the potatoes to about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Dice the onion and mince the garlic.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.
  5. Add ground beef and brown it, seasoning with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Lightly grease a baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom.
  7. Spread half of the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes and add half of the cheddar cheese on top.
  8. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and beef, finishing with the last layer of cheddar cheese.
  9. Pour beef broth (and milk, if using) over the dish, cover with foil, and bake for 35-40 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, and bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Let rest for 5 minutes, garnish with parsley, and serve.

Notes

For a creamier texture, consider adding milk to the dish. Experiment with different cheese varieties for added flavor.
