Ingredients
- 2 pounds (907 g) stew beef
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sesame oil
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 6 tablespoons (90 ml) vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) honey
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) dried oregano
- Sesame seeds for garnish
- Fresh parsley or scallions, optional
- 1 tablespoon (8 g) cornstarch if needed
Instructions
- Pour the sesame oil into a large frying pan and heat over medium-high heat.
- Sear the beef chunks until they are browned on each side without cooking them through.
- Transfer the browned beef to your slow cooker.
- Mix together the garlic, vegetable oil, honey, tomato sauce, soy sauce, and oregano, then drizzle over the beef in the slow cooker, ensuring everything is well-coated.
- Place the lid on the slow cooker and let it cook on low for 4-6 hours until the beef becomes tender.
- The soy sauce will give the beef a deep, rich color as it cooks.
- If the sauce appears too thick before the beef is fully tender, add half a cup of water.
- If the sauce seems too runny before serving, blend one tablespoon of cornstarch with a quarter cup of water and mix it into the sauce.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and serve with rice!
- Add parsley or scallions for a touch of color.
Notes
- Marinate the beef in the sauce mixture for a few hours before cooking for a richer flavor.
- Control the saltiness of the dish by using low-sodium soy sauce.
- Adjust the sweetness of the dish by adding more or less honey to suit your taste preference.
