Description

Juicy hamburger steaks paired with a rich creamy dill sauce for a heartwarming comfort food experience.

Ingredients

  • 1.3 pounds ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 1 yellow onion (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup low sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped dill (more for serving)

Instructions

  1. Begin in a large bowl by grating the onion and combining it with the ground beef, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, heavy cream, and egg. Mix until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into four even portions, shaping each portion into a ball. Press each ball down until they reach a thickness of about ¾ inch.
  3. Set the patties aside while you prepare the sauce.
  4. Chop the second yellow onion, mince the garlic, and chop the dill.
  5. Heat oil and butter over medium heat in a large nonstick skillet. Cook the hamburger steaks for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Transfer the steaks to a plate once cooked.
  7. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  8. Incorporate flour, salt, and pepper, stirring to combine.
  9. Slowly pour in the chicken broth and simmer for 2 minutes.
  10. Add the heavy cream and chopped dill, bringing the sauce to a boil.
  11. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes until thickened.
  12. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, cooking for an additional 5-6 minutes until heated through.
  13. Serve with extra dill and freshly grated black pepper as garnish.

Notes

Use fresh, high-quality ground beef for best results. Serve with roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
