Description

Comforting and easy-to-make Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes bring together ground turkey, fresh vegetables, and a rich sauce nestled in fluffy hamburger buns.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • ⅓ cup green bell pepper (seeded and diced)
  • ½ cup yellow onion (diced)
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • Hamburger buns
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1½ tbsp yellow mustard
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground turkey. Cook for 6-8 minutes or until browned, breaking up the ground turkey with a spatula.
  2. Add the diced onions and green peppers to the skillet. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes or until they become soft.
  3. Drain off any excess grease, keeping the dish light and healthy.
  4. Combine the sauce ingredients: tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, salt, onion powder, and paprika. Stir to blend the flavors.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. Simmer uncovered for 6-8 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to your preference.
  6. Serve the delicious mixture on your favorite buns and enjoy.

Notes

For added flavor complexity, consider stirring in apple cider vinegar or a dash of hot sauce. Experiment with different combinations of vegetables.
