Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- ⅓ cup green bell pepper (seeded and diced)
- ½ cup yellow onion (diced)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- Hamburger buns
- 8 oz tomato sauce
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1½ tbsp yellow mustard
- ¼ tsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp paprika
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground turkey. Cook for 6-8 minutes or until browned, breaking up the ground turkey with a spatula.
- Add the diced onions and green peppers to the skillet. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes or until they become soft.
- Drain off any excess grease, keeping the dish light and healthy.
- Combine the sauce ingredients: tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, salt, onion powder, and paprika. Stir to blend the flavors.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. Simmer uncovered for 6-8 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to your preference.
- Serve the delicious mixture on your favorite buns and enjoy.
Notes
For added flavor complexity, consider stirring in apple cider vinegar or a dash of hot sauce. Experiment with different combinations of vegetables.
