- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 pound (450 g) lean ground beef
- 1 tsp (5 ml) dried basil
- 1 cup (240 ml) green beans
- 1 cup (240 ml) tomatoes, diced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 potatoes, cooked and mashed
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) water
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) shredded cheese (use a vegetarian cheese alternative)
Instructions
- Collect all necessary items.
- Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly coat a 2-quart baking dish with cooking spray.
- Warm the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion until it becomes translucent, roughly 5 minutes.
- Incorporate the ground beef and basil into the pan. Stir and cook until the beef is browned and crumbly, approximately 5 minutes.
- Stir in the green beans, diced tomatoes, and minced garlic; continue cooking until the beans become slightly tender, about another 5 minutes.
- Move the mixture into the greased baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, water, and beaten egg until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly over the beef layer.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake until the potato topping starts to turn golden, about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Top with cheese and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted.
