Description

A hearty and comforting ground beef pasta dish that’s simple to prepare and great for family meals.

Ingredients

  • 8-10 ounces pasta (any shape)
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 (14-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Kosher salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra to serve)
  • Fresh chopped parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Boil a large pot of water, adding a generous pinch of salt. Cook the pasta to al dente, according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. While the pasta cooks, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook for about 5 minutes, crumbling the meat into pieces as it browns.
  3. Once the meat is mostly browned and the onions are tender, stir in the tomato paste, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Add the tomato sauce to the skillet, stirring well. Cook for 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream until warmed through, then mix in the drained pasta and Parmesan cheese. Toss well, seasoning with kosher salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Serve right away with extra Parmesan and chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using vegetables like spinach or bell peppers. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
