Description

Discover how to make a flavorful Green Chile Hamburger Helper with this easy recipe. Perfect for weeknight dinners, learn tips to enhance this classic dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) extra lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion chopped
  • 2 heaping tablespoon s tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) chili powder
  • 3 cup (720 ml) s beef broth
  • 1 cup (240 ml) uncooked elb ow macaroni
  • 2 cup (480 ml) s freshly grated cheddar cheese
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the ground beef and chopped onions into a large pot. Cook over medium-high heat until the meat is browned, which should take about 7-10 minutes, making sure to break the meat apart with a spoon. Remove most of the excess fat if there is a lot of it.
  2. Mix in the tomato paste, garlic powder, and chili powder.
  3. Pour the beef broth into the pot and raise the temperature to high. Once it begins to boil, add the macaroni.
  4. Lower the heat to maintain a steady simmer. I cooked mine at medium heat. Allow it to cook uncovered until the pasta is soft and most of the liquid is absorbed, roughly 13-15 minutes, stirring every couple of minutes.
  5. While it cooks, shred the cheddar cheese to save time later.
  6. Remove the pot from the heat and blend in the cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste. I usually let it rest for a few minutes before serving to enhance the flavors, but it can be served immediately if preferred.

Notes

  • Start by sautéing onions until soft before adding the beef for extra depth.
  • Mix tomato paste with beef and onions for a minute to boost its flavor.
  • Off the heat, gradually incorporate cheddar for a smooth, creamy consistency.
