Description

A delicious twist combining two beloved comfort foods: Sloppy Joes and Philly cheesesteaks, featuring rich beef, melted provolone, and toasted brioche buns.

Ingredients

  • 450g lean ground beef
  • 30g butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 230g brown mushrooms, minced or chopped
  • 30g ketchup
  • 15g Worcestershire sauce
  • 3g Kosher salt
  • 3g ground black pepper
  • 8g cornstarch
  • 240ml beef broth
  • 225g provolone cheese, chopped or shredded
  • 6 brioche hamburger buns, buttered and toasted

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the lean ground beef, browning without disturbing for one minute. Break it up once it starts to sear.
  2. Remove the beef from the pan once browned.
  3. Melt butter in the same pan, then add the diced onions, bell pepper, and mushrooms, cooking until golden.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix beef broth, cornstarch, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add the sauce mixture to the vegetables and let simmer for 3-5 minutes to thicken.
  6. Return the browned beef to the pan and combine everything well.
  7. Stir in the provolone cheese until melted and creamy.
  8. Butter and toast the brioche buns until golden brown.
  9. Fill each bun generously with the beef and cheese mixture and serve immediately.

Notes

For added richness, consider using a bit more butter when sautéing the vegetables. Fresh herbs like thyme or parsley can elevate the dish.
