  • – 1 lb. (454 g) ground turkey
  • – 2 Tbsp. (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • – 1 small yellow onion, diced small
  • – 1 red bell pepper, diced small
  • – 2 Tbsp. (30 ml) fresh garlic, minced
  • – 1 can (425 g) diced tomatoes
  • – 1 can (140 g) Ortega green chiles
  • – 1 Habanero pepper, diced small (optional)
  • – 1 jalapeño, diced small
  • – 1 Tbsp. (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • – 1 jar (450 g) thick and chunky salsa (or any brand is fine)
  • – 1 can (220 g) El Pato hot tomato sauce
  • – 12 oz. (355 ml) beef broth
  • – 12 oz. (355 ml) chili sauce (Heinz)
  • – 1/2 cup (120 ml) chili seasoning*
  • – 1 can (425 g) cannellini beans (rinsed & drained)
  • – 1 can (425 g) black beans (rinsed & drained)
  • – 1 can (425 g) pinto beans (rinsed & drained)
  • – 1 can (425 g) kidney beans (rinsed & drained)
  • – 1/2 cup (120 ml) chopped cilantro
  • – Topping ideas: cheese, sour cream, corn bread, avocado, red onions, etc.

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the spicy ground beef and ground turkey with vegetable oil over medium-high heat until browned. Transfer the cooked meat to the bottom of a slow cooker, ensuring it is at least 6 quarts in size.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium and cook the diced onion and bell pepper for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the minced garlic and stir for about 1 minute until it becomes aromatic.
  3. Move the sautéed vegetables to the slow cooker, combining them with the cooked meats.
  4. Add all the remaining ingredients into the slow cooker with the meat and vegetable mixture. It may seem like a lot, but it will blend together beautifully.
  5. Mix everything thoroughly, then set the slow cooker to low and let it cook for approximately 4 to 6 hours, or on high for about 3 to 4 hours. Adjust the seasonings to your taste if necessary.
  6. Serve the chili with cornbread, and add toppings like cheese, onions, sour cream, avocado, or any of your preferred garnishes. Enjoy your meal!
