Description

A delightful burger featuring caramelized onions, juicy beef patties with American cheese, and a flavorful sauce, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Tony Chachere’s or preferred Creole seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 12 ounces of 80/20 ground beef
  • 4 slices of American cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons relish
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for the sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Tony Chachere’s
  • Cayenne pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel the large yellow onion and slice it into four 1/2-inch thick rounds.
  2. Drizzle each onion slice with olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, and sprinkle with Creole seasoning and brown sugar.
  3. In a pan over medium-low heat, caramelize the onion slices for about 10 minutes on each side until they are deeply browned and tender throughout.
  4. In a mixing bowl, season the ground beef with the remaining Creole seasoning.
  5. Divide the mixture into four equal portions; roll each portion into a ball and smash into thin patties.
  6. Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 2-3 minutes per side until cooked through and with a nice crust.
  7. Place a slice of American cheese over each patty and allow it to melt.
  8. In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, relish, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, Tony Chachere’s, and cayenne pepper to taste. Whisk until smooth.
  9. To assemble the burger, place one caramelized onion round on a plate. Top it with a cheesy burger patty and a spoonful of sauce. Add another onion round as the ‘top bun.’
  10. Serve immediately with extra sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

Adjust cayenne pepper for desired spice level and serve with fries or a salad.
