Description

A delightful egg-free twist on classic French toast, perfect for cozy breakfasts and dietary restrictions.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 6 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2-3 tablespoons butter
  • 6-10 slices of thick-sliced bread

Instructions

  1. In a large, flat-bottomed bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, and 1 cup of milk until the cornstarch dissolves.
  2. Stir in the remaining milk and vanilla extract to create the egg-free batter.
  3. Melt 1 to 2 tablespoons of butter in your skillet or on the griddle.
  4. Dip each slice of bread into the batter quickly, then place on the skillet.
  5. Cook each slice for 2 to 3 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 2 to 4 minutes.
  6. Re-butter your skillet as needed, repeating until all bread slices are cooked.
  7. Serve warm with maple syrup and toppings of your choice.

Notes

Use thick slices of bread for better texture. Experiment with different types of bread or add nutmeg for variations.
