Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 6 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2-3 tablespoons butter
- 6-10 slices of thick-sliced bread
Instructions
- In a large, flat-bottomed bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, and 1 cup of milk until the cornstarch dissolves.
- Stir in the remaining milk and vanilla extract to create the egg-free batter.
- Melt 1 to 2 tablespoons of butter in your skillet or on the griddle.
- Dip each slice of bread into the batter quickly, then place on the skillet.
- Cook each slice for 2 to 3 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 2 to 4 minutes.
- Re-butter your skillet as needed, repeating until all bread slices are cooked.
- Serve warm with maple syrup and toppings of your choice.
Notes
Use thick slices of bread for better texture. Experiment with different types of bread or add nutmeg for variations.
