A classic Southern dish featuring sweet onions, buttery and cheesy topping, perfect as a side or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 2-3 large sweet onions (Vidalia, Walla Walla, or Maui)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Peel and slice the onions into thick rings (about 1/4-inch thick), then separate the rings.
- Arrange the onion rings evenly in the prepared baking dish, slightly overlapping them.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the onions, ensuring they’re well-coated.
- Sprinkle garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper evenly over the onions.
- Generously top the onions with shredded cheese and Parmesan.
- Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
- Let the onions cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and enjoy!
