Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) water
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) uncooked white rice
  • 8 cabbage leaves
  • 1 pound (450 g) lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped onion
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 (10.5 oz (298 g)) can condensed tomato soup, divided
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Collect all necessary items.
  2. In a pot, heat water and rice until boiling.
  3. Lower the heat, place a lid on the pot, and let it cook gently until the rice is soft and the water is absorbed, approximately 20 minutes.
  4. Simultaneously, heat a large pot of water with a pinch of salt until boiling.
  5. Immerse cabbage leaves in the boiling water, cooking for 2 to 4 minutes until they become pliable, then drain them.
  6. In a big bowl, thoroughly blend the meat, a cup of the cooked rice, onion, the egg, 2 tablespoons of tomato soup, salt, and pepper.
  7. Place roughly 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf.
  8. Fold one end of the leaf over the filling.
  9. Roll it up and tuck the ends in securely to hold the filling inside.
  10. Arrange the cabbage rolls in a large pan over medium heat.
  11. Pour the rest of the tomato soup over the rolls.
  12. Cover the pan, bring it to a boil, then lower the heat and let it cook gently for about 40 minutes, frequently stirring and basting with the sauce.
  13. Dish up and savor!

Notes

  • Cook the rice until it is tender and all the water is absorbed for a perfect filling texture.
  • Opt for lean ground beef to ensure light and flavorful cabbage rolls.
  • Drizzle ample tomato soup over the rolls for a delectable sauce, and baste them regularly while cooking to maintain moisture and flavor.
