Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) water
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) uncooked white rice
- 8 cabbage leaves
- 1 pound (450 g) lean ground beef
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped onion
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1 (10.5 oz (298 g)) can condensed tomato soup, divided
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
- 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground black pepper
Instructions
- Collect all necessary items.
- In a pot, heat water and rice until boiling.
- Lower the heat, place a lid on the pot, and let it cook gently until the rice is soft and the water is absorbed, approximately 20 minutes.
- Simultaneously, heat a large pot of water with a pinch of salt until boiling.
- Immerse cabbage leaves in the boiling water, cooking for 2 to 4 minutes until they become pliable, then drain them.
- In a big bowl, thoroughly blend the meat, a cup of the cooked rice, onion, the egg, 2 tablespoons of tomato soup, salt, and pepper.
- Place roughly 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf.
- Fold one end of the leaf over the filling.
- Roll it up and tuck the ends in securely to hold the filling inside.
- Arrange the cabbage rolls in a large pan over medium heat.
- Pour the rest of the tomato soup over the rolls.
- Cover the pan, bring it to a boil, then lower the heat and let it cook gently for about 40 minutes, frequently stirring and basting with the sauce.
