Description

Delicious homemade bagels made with sourdough starter, perfect for breakfast or snack time.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter (discard or fed)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda (for boiling)
  • Toppings (e.g., sesame seeds, poppy seeds)

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, sourdough starter, salt, sugar, and water in a large mixing bowl. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise overnight at room temperature.
  4. In the morning, divide the dough into equal portions and shape them into bagels.
  5. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
  6. Boil each bagel for about 30 seconds on each side.
  7. Remove and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Sprinkle toppings if desired.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Allow the dough to rise longer for enhanced flavor. Experiment with different toppings for unique variations.
