Delicious homemade bagels made with sourdough starter, perfect for breakfast or snack time.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup active sourdough starter (discard or fed)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon baking soda (for boiling)
- Toppings (e.g., sesame seeds, poppy seeds)
Instructions
- Combine the flour, sourdough starter, salt, sugar, and water in a large mixing bowl. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise overnight at room temperature.
- In the morning, divide the dough into equal portions and shape them into bagels.
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- Boil each bagel for about 30 seconds on each side.
- Remove and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle toppings if desired.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
Allow the dough to rise longer for enhanced flavor. Experiment with different toppings for unique variations.
