Description

Learn how to make delicious and easy Italian meatballs from scratch with this simple recipe. Perfect for any pasta dish or as a standalone appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 454 g ground beef
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 60 ml breadcrumbs
  • 25 g grated Parmesan cheese
  • 40 g finely chopped onion
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) minced garlic
  • 3/4 teaspoon (4 ml) salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) chopped fresh Italian flat leaf parsley, optional

Instructions

  1. Set your oven to 400°F. Prepare a baking tray by covering it with foil and applying non-stick spray.
  2. In a sizable bowl, mix together the ground beef, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and parsley if you wish to include it.
  3. Using a medium cookie scoop or spoon, portion out the meat mixture. Shape it into balls about 1 1/2 inches in size and arrange them on the prepared tray.
  4. Place in the oven and cook for 17 to 20 minutes, ensuring the centers are no longer pink. Flip them halfway through the cooking time to prevent the bottoms from over-browning.
  5. Optionally, simmer the meatballs in marinara sauce for an additional 10 minutes.
  6. You can enjoy the meatballs on their own or serve them over spaghetti. Garnish with extra Parmesan and fresh herbs if you like.

Notes

  • Consider using lean ground beef or turkey for a healthier option to reduce fat content.
  • Mix in dried herbs like oregano or basil for an added burst of flavor.
  • Experiment with mozzarella or cheddar cheeses to create a unique twist on the classic recipe.
